The Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA) is delighted to announce that its comprehensive online training course, ‘Stream One – Heat Pumps for Engineers,’ has been granted CPD (Continuing Professional Development) certification. Aimed at professionals working towards Zero Carbon strategies and plans, this CPD certified course is designed to equip participants with an in-depth understanding of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) and their applications.

GSHPA’s ‘Stream One’ course takes a distinct approach by addressing the inadequacies of rules of thumb in GSHP design, emphasizing the development of a solid understanding within the design process. Through a series of interactive sessions led by expert instructors, participants gain valuable knowledge and skills to effectively work with GSHPs in both new build and retrofit properties.

The course covers an extensive range of topics to ensure participants achieve a high level of competence in key areas related to GSHP technology. It begins by highlighting the importance of adopting a holistic approach to GSHP installations and delves into the significance of accurate building load information. The role of geology in GSHP systems is thoroughly discussed, and participants gain insights into various ground loop types and their considerations.

Participants will also get hands-on experience with ground loop design software, enhancing their practical skills. The course covers the hydraulics of ground source systems and explores the operational principles and efficiency of GSHPs.

Additionally, the course addresses the integration of heat pumps with other technologies, including cooling capabilities, and covers critical considerations such as heat pump selection and sizing. Participants will also explore system performance issues and solutions related to control systems.

Beyond technical aspects, the course addresses the ground source supply chain, commissioning, and handover processes, providing a holistic perspective on successful GSHP installations. Real-world case studies will be presented to demonstrate diverse GSHP applications, and a bonus session will introduce participants to the innovative concept of the ambient loop, known as the 5th generation heat network.

“We are thrilled to receive CPD certification for our ‘Stream One – Heat Pumps for Engineers’ online training course,” said Stephen Bielby Operations Manager & Secretariat at the GSHPA. This course equips participants with the necessary expertise to effectively work with ground source heat pumps and contributes to the wider adoption of sustainable heating and cooling solutions in line with Zero Carbon strategies and plans.”

Participants can complete the course at their own pace by watching each unit presentation and completing the corresponding unit assessment. Upon successful completion of all unit presentations and assessments, participants will be awarded the CPD certified Stream 1 certificate.
