Scotland tends to have the lowest grid carbon factor of the countries in the UK due to the higher renewable content of electricity generation from wind and nuclear.

Whenever the current grid carbon factor is below 215 grams of CO2 per KWh then even direct electric heating emits less carbon from the grid than a gas boiler does on site!

Wherever you are in the UK, a heat pump releases dramatically less CO2 than any form of heating based on combustion.
